Dear Editor Submitted to THE DERRICK 5-10-21
By now most voters have done their research on Ballot questions #1 and #2 that will be on the ballot to amend the PA Constitution. Bottom line seems to be a NO vote on these two will be status quo and keep Gov. Wolf’s reign intact such that he can continue to hold our State hostage at his command. A YES vote on these two questions will limit his dictatorial powers and place some say back into the elected general assembly. So ask yourself – are you happy with what Gov. Wolf has accomplished with his disaster extensions that allowed business shutdowns far longer than was warranted?
Ballot question #3 – read carefully keeping this in mind. While you may think you agree with this language, keep in mind the LGBTQ activists unsuccessfully tried to insert “sexual orientation and gender identity” into the amendment during committee hearings. Passage of this amendment will open the door for the addition of more protected classes such as ‘sexual orientation and gender identity.” Additionally, we already have Section 1 of the 14th Amendment which provides for equal protection under the law. Also, by using the word, “individuals” and not “citizens” in the language, this amendment would make deporting illegal immigrants, including those with ties to terrorism and other crimes, much more difficult. If question 3 passes, the “individuals” could easily sue in court to stop deportation and the liberal courts could agree.
Ballot question #4 – This will determine whether the state loan program for volunteer fire companies and emergency services will be expanded to include paid fire departments and emergency services. Paid fire departments and emergency services currently have income from taxes and/or insurance and individual billing. This is different from volunteer fire companies, ambulance services, and rescue squads which raise their own funds and have unpaid staff.
Third Party and Independent Voters who are unable to vote for their candidates in the Primary are still permitted to voted on the Ballot questions.
Don’t give up on our elections. Keep vigilant – keep voting – vote smart and NEVER GIVE UP!
