Cynthia Smith, of Berks county, issued her own statement to PA Republican Committee members, in response to an earlier letter that apparently originated from PAGOP leadership and was sent to Republican Committee Chairs. The letter, which bore no signature, instructed Republican committee members to allow only endorsed candidates to speak at Republican events, and that county party members and staff should only circulate petitions and distribute campaign material for endorsed candidates. Pitting Republican against Republican, the letter further instructed committee members to decline any promotional materials from non-endorsed Republican candidates.
