$500K to Study Oil Industry and Domestic Violence

The National Institute of Justice is planning to spend $500,000 in federal funds to see if the booming oil industry has impacted domestic violence, dating violence, rape, and stalking in North Dakota and South Dakota and Montana.

“Qualitative and quantitative methods should be used to better understand whether the influx of oil workers in these communities is having any impact on victims of, or contributing to an increase in domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking,” the grant solicitation said.

“Qualitative efforts should target community members, criminal justice agencies and staff, and victim service providers. Quantitative methods should include the examination of available criminal justice data, both prior to and after the introduction of the oil camps,” the grant added.

PA to Remain Center of Gas Industry

From the Oil City Derrick:

Pa. to remain center of gas drilling, experts say

KEVIN BEGOS
Associated Press

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Like a runner who’s gotten a big head start in a race, experts say Pennsylvania may be set to dominate natural gas production in the Marcellus Shale region for many years.

The state is a cost-effective place to do business because it already has billions of dollars invested in leases, wells and related infrastructure. And a plunge in wholesale prices has made being thrifty a must for some companies. That deals a potential blow to would-be upstart New York.
Oil and gas analyst Fadel Gheit says he expects Pennsylvania to be the center of activity for the next few years, if not longer.

He says there’s less risk sticking with a state and with regulations they know. He says New York is generally seen as a more liberal state than Pennsylvania and thus more prone to imposing stricter rules on drilling.

Production and Development Update for Venango County Oil and Gas

Drake Gold Resources (OTC Markets: DKGR) is pleased to announce a production and development update for its Pennsylvania oil & gas project in Venango County.

Drake’s six leases are producing an average of 17.2 barrels of oil per day (BOPD). The Glover lease is the most active one and, consequently, is initially targeted for the first of the rework and treatment program. Production will vary on each lease depending on such factors as the weather; down time due to reworks and treatment; and various other factors which impacts the daily output.

Each of these wells once reworked and treated historically, will produce between 1 and 5 BOPD. Management is using conservative estimates on these leases with expectations of reworking / treating approximately 100 wells. In addition, Management feels that the wells will have a median production of 1.5 BOPD which does not include the in-field drilling that may occur in the future.
