March, typically the largest revenue collection month of the year, ended with collections 2.4 percent – or $94.7 million – over estimates. However, fiscal year-to-date collections are 1.9 percent – or $386.9 million –below estimates.
For those who don’t think the Commonwealth is spending enough consider the current $27.1 billion state budget equates to spending:
- $74.3 million a day
- $3 million an hour
- $51,653 each minute
- $861 each second (snap your fingers to equal 1 second)
Add in federal dollars and other special funds, Pennsylvania’s yearly total spending equals $63.3 billion, or:
- $173.4 million a day
- $7.2 million an hour
- $120,434 each minute
- $2,007 each second
