New Economic Patriotism — Obama Style

President Obama has a new booklet—a glossy, 20-page spread called “The New Economic Patriotism: A Plan for Jobs and Middle-Class Security.” The title is completely Orwellian, since the plan—which is nothing new—would actually kill jobs, harming the middle class.

As expected, the “new patriotism” means paying more in taxes for those small business owners who create many of the nation’s jobs.

This isn’t the first time the President has invoked patriotism to describe economic plans.

When he was running for President, Obama condemned George W. Bush for adding $4 trillion to the national debt over eight years, calling it “irresponsible” and “unpatriotic.” Now—in less than four years—Obama’s Administration has already added almost $6 trillion to the debt. And he’s on track to add another $4 trillion over the next decade.

Biden: Helping More Homeowners Won’t Cost Taxpayers a Penny

Vice President Joe Biden, speaking at a high school in Detroit Wednesday, said “it won’t cost the government a penny” to help more homeowners stay in their homes, “if the Republicans would just get out of the way.”

Biden took credit for cutting taxes for the middle class “every year we’ve been in office,” adding that federal taxes for the middle class are “nearly at their lowest levels since the Eisenhower administration.”

“We cut small business taxes to help them grow. “We helped millions of families modify their mortgages so they could stay in their homes, and we helped more than a million refinance their mortgages saving $3,000 a year, but guess what?” Biden said.

“We could do it for another 12 million if the Republicans would just get out of the way, just get out the way. Right? Just get out the way. And it won’t cost the government a penny,” he added.

Obama’s Tax Hike on Job Creators

“The last thing you want to do is to raise taxes in the middle of a recession, because that would just suck up—take more demand out of the economy and put businesses in a further hole.”

That was President Obama in 2009, trying to reassure Americans that he was going to wait until after the recession to raise taxes. Yesterday, he began pushing again for higher taxes on the “wealthy“—which would actually hit 1.2 million of the country’s most successful job creators.

As if the Obamacare tax hike and the rest of Taxmageddon weren’t enough.

The tax increase du jour is a recycled one: The President’s long-held plan to raise taxes on incomes over $200,000 ($250,000 for families). Interestingly, President Obama is to the left of his liberal allies in Congress such as Senator Charles Schumer (D–NY) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D–CA) on the definition of the “rich.” Schumer and Pelosi set the mark at as those making more than $1 million annually. That is five times higher than President Obama’s $200,000 mark. Apparently even they recognize the President’s plan would be too punitive on job creators (although they are still willing to stick it to the most successful job creators for the sake of class warfare).
