Congressman Tom Marino (R-10) frustrated with a $17 trillion national debt and President Barack Obama’s unwillingness to compromise on spending cuts, said his proposal is just one step to help dig out of a deep financial hole.

“Someone has to be man enough to step up to the plate and introduce it,” he said Tuesday during a telephone interview from Washington, D.C.

He said Obama will continue to tax the American public.

“He didn’t want an agreement. He wanted a tax on everyone,” Marino said of Obama’s stance during fiscal cliff negotiations. “He’s not trustworthy; he’s simply a tax-and-spend person.”

“Everybody knows why we need to do this, but he doesn’t care,” Marino continued. “In four years we’re going to be bankrupt and in four years he’s going to be out of here and make lots of money.”
