Saturday, Feb. 2, Fishermen’s Network, 149 Summit Drive, Franklin will be holding a two-hour class for anyone who is thinking about running for an office in Venango County.  The class will take place at our offices at 9:00 am.   You will learn about various positions up for election, what is required of the position, how to file your petitions by Feb. 19 to participate in the 2013 Municipal Election.  Positions for Township Supervisors, School Board, Row Officers, etc. will be discussed and how our County government relates to these positions.  The Instructor will be Heather Mohnkern, who is not only the Executive Director at Fishermen’s Network but a second-term elected County Auditor.  She has been through the process before and learned valuable lessons she would like to share.  The curriculum is based upon that previously presented in the County by Mr. Dan Brockett of Penn State Cooperative Extension.  There is no charge for the training.  You are welcome even if you aren’t running but just interested in how County government works.  Reservation are required and can be made by calling 814-437-5355.

“Neither the wisest constitution nor the wisest laws will secure the liberty and happiness of a people whose manners are universally corrupt.  He therefore is the truest friend to the liberty of his country who tries most to promote its virtue, and who…will not suffer a man to be chosen into any office of power and trust who is not a wise and virtuous man.”          Samuel Adams

“The republican form of government requires godly men and women as representatives because in a republic we don’t vote for laws, we vote for representatives who make the laws for us.   So Christians need to do more than vote.  They must run for office and become the ones making the laws.”        Neil Mammen
