Former US vice president Al Gore, who sold out to the same Arab oil he made an environmental career out of pretending to fight,  may hold first place as the world’s number one environmental snake oil salesman.  But his one-time partner in the largely bogus Chicago Climate Exchange, Maurice Strong is a close runner up.

Less than a year ago, this long-time ‘Father of the Environment’  and secretary-general of 1992’s first global Earth Summit,  was loudly touting China as world leader in tackling climate change.

Back then China, which Strong said was going to be seen in Rio’s upcoming 20th anniversary,  as “amongst the most progressive and responsible countries” was leaving Strong’s native Canada far behind in the dust as the world’s best role model for controlling greenhouse gases.

China, where toxic smog is canceling flights and shutting down factories,  is today literally choking on dust.

“For the fourth time this year, a murky haze has descended over north China, leaving residents of Beijing choking on toxic smog.  China’s air hasn’t been this bad since 1953, according to the state-run People’s Daily newspaper.

“Visibility is reduced to 100 yards in downtown Beijing.  Travel has been disrupted with more than 100 flights cancelled, at a time when millions start the journey home for Chinese New Year.(People’s Daily, Jan. 20, 2013).
