The top Republican on the Senate’s budget panel is prepared to battle Republican Gov. Tom Corbett over proposed cuts to higher education spending.
State Sen. Jake Corman, R-Centre, whose district includes the main campus of Penn State, said the state’s colleges and universities paid their fair share in budget cuts last year and should not be targeted again in 2012.
“They’ve taken significant cuts over the years,” said Corman, chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. “If it is truly a math issue, as everyone is stating and I believe that it is, then it’s up to us to do the math a little better.”
Hmm, could this have anything to do with the fact Penn State is in Corman’s ‘backyard’?
